Grace’s Architectural Treasures
Incorporated in 1847 and designed in the Gothic Revival style by distinguished architect Richard Upjohn, Grace’s building features polished wood, carved pews, floor mosaics, stained-glass windows from Tiffany Glass Co., Mayer, Cottier, Maitland Armstrong & Co., Heaton Butler and Bayne of London, Lamb & Co. (Lamb Studios), Clayton & Bell, and Charles Booth of London and New York, and an open trusswork ceiling with a unique celestial design. Commemorative plaques accompany many of the stained-glass windows in our space, offering a glimpse of the families and leaders who have been a part of our community for nearly two centuries.
The church underwent a year-long restoration project in 2013-2014, during which a new copper roof was installed and previously obscured architectural details, such as the celestial ceiling, were revealed. EverGreene Architectural Arts served as conservator for the restoration. As a result of these extensive efforts, Grace was honored with a 2015 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award by the New York Landmarks Conservancy, an award for Excellence in Historic Preservation from the Brooklyn Heights Association, and a 2014 Preservation Award from the Victorian Society New York.
As a historic, diverse and active parish, Grace Church is led by the Rev. Dr. Allen F. Robinson, Rector. We look forward to opening our doors to our community to share the beauty and stories of our sacred space with you!
Help Us Maintain Our Historic Building
The Grace Brooklyn Heights Conservancy, a 501(c)(3), was established in 2012 to support the restoration of and capital improvements to Grace Church.
